Wintel Technician – NV1 Cleared | Canberra | HMAS Harman
Cleared Recruitment is partnering with a major Defence program to source an experienced NV1 Wintel Technician for a role based at HMAS Harman in Canberra.

This is a critical ICT position supporting a high-profile maritime capability, offering the chance to contribute technical expertise to the design, build, and deployment of secure infrastructure in line with Defence and security compliance requirements.
To be eligible, you must hold an active NV1 security clearance and be willing to work in a secure Defence environment.

this is an 18-month contract likely to be ongoing!

About the Role

As a Wintel Technician, you will provide subject matter expertise across Microsoft-based infrastructure, ensuring all solutions align with Defence security frameworks and technical governance. You will play a key role in building and supporting highly available environments, including those operating in partially connected or degraded states.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Design, deploy, and maintain secure Microsoft-based ICT infrastructure.
• 
  Analyse and resolve complex technical issues across infrastructure and applications.
• 
  Develop and peer-review SOPs, build guides, and technical documentation.
• 
  Ensure all technical solutions comply with Defence governance and ISM security standards.
• 
  Provide SME-level advice to project stakeholders and end users.
• 
  Contribute to system design, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.

Technical Skills & Experience Required

• 
  Strong background delivering and supporting Defence ICT systems.
• 
  Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server 2019, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, PKI, VMware VCF, and PowerShell.
• 
  Demonstrated ability to support fault-tolerant systems in disconnected or deployed environments.
• 
  Experience mentoring technical teams and providing SME-level guidance.
• 
  Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• 
  Ability to translate technical requirements into practical design and deployment.

Desirable Skills

• 
  Knowledge of SEA2273 Minerva systems or similar Defence maritime platforms.
• 
  Experience with Nutanix infrastructure, SAN/NAS storage, and RAID configurations.
• 
  Familiarity with ISM compliance, Defence governance frameworks, and deployed operational environments.
• 
  Strong scripting and automation capabilities for proof-of-concept builds.

Qualifications & Certifications

• 
  Relevant ICT certifications in Wintel, VMware, or Microsoft environments (e.g., MCSE, MCSA).
• 
  Qualifications or experience across multiple ICT disciplines including networking, datacentre management, security, unified communications, and VOIP.
• 
  ITIL certification or equivalent process-oriented experience is an advantage.

Work Arrangement

• 
  Full-time, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
• 
  Occasional approved overtime may apply.
• 
  Primary location: Canberra (HMAS Harman), with potential travel to Sydney.
• 
  Must meet DSN access requirements.
• 
  Compliance with US ITAR regulations is required.

Security Requirements

• 
  Active NV1 clearance is mandatory (NV2 preferred).
• 
  Must be an Australian citizen.
